Edintore Wind Farm

Engineered Systems (Electrical) Ltd completed work at Edintore Wind Farm in Moray, Scotland. ESE acted as the Independent Connection Provider (ICP) for Edintore Wind Farm Ltd (owned by Vento Ludens) which is a 14.1MW site comprising of six 2.35MW wind turbines.

The full ICP design was carried out by ESE and subject to the approval of Scottish & Southern. The 33kV cable route from the point of connection at Keith substation to the wind farm was a challenge with varied terrains and different stakeholders. ESE supplied and installed 7km of underground 33kV cabling in a combination of road, verge and agricultural land, the trench excavation, duct lay, installation, and trench reinstatement which was carried out within 16 weeks in harsh winter conditions.

ESE liaised with the BEAR highways agency, Scottish Gas Networks, Aberdeenshire and Moray council, local transport providers, and stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to transport and local key annual events throughout the install.

As part of the ICP work, ESE carried out the design, procurement, and installation of the DNO switchgear which included 33kV Schneider switchgear, battery tripping units, and control wiring between the DNO and customer switchgear. The whole installation was carried out to the satisfaction of the DNO and was tested and commissioned in accordance with their specifications.

The project was completed at the end of June 2016; delivered on time and within budget.
