ESE Ltd WIN PRESTIGIOUS CONTRACT IN SNOWDONIA NATIONAL PARK

Engineered Systems (Electrical) Ltd have been appointed to carry out the design, installation, testing and commissioning of a new high voltage power and communications connection at Ffestiniog Power Station.

Ffestiniog Power Station was originally commissioned in 1963 and was the UK's first major pumped storage power facility. The pumped storage type power station is located within the Snowdonia National Park and is capable of achieving a combined output of 360MW of electricity.

The project consists of installing new high voltage power and communications cables between the Power Station and the upper reservoir. Spanning 2.7km, the cable route is made up of open mountain side, existing access roads, water and a railway crossings. This is one of the most challenging projects ESE Ltd have undertaken and signifies a major milestone in our ever-expanding range of services.

The challenging cable route has meant that several materials have been moved into place using a helicopter, a first for ESE Ltd. Work commenced on site at the beginning of August, with a projected energisation date for Summer 2019. The video below shows the completed civil works to date.
